The mist clung low over the cursed rice fields as Kenichi tightened his grip on the ash-wood shaft. Before him loomed a massive Tengu, its beak gleaming in the moonlight. The beast lunged, claws raking the air, but Kenichi did not retreat. With a fluid spin of his hips, he extended the spear's tip just inches from the creature's throat. The Tengu hesitated, confused by the sudden shift in distance. In that split second, Kenichi pivoted into a low stance, parrying the bird's follow-up strike with a resounding clang before driving the shaft upward, piercing the spirit's core and sending it dissolving into black smoke.
